Maiengasse Basel

A formerly urban plot of land in Basel, surrounded by a block edge, was to be condensed and built with around 70 additional apartments. Our goal was to keep the edge of the block and to create a differentiated courtyard system with a clear separation of public and private spaces.

A wide variety of individually designed apartment types are grouped around access zones that have clear orientation and daylight. What all apartment types have in common is the connecting living room with a balcony on either the east or west side, as well as a clear separation into living and sleeping areas. This differentiation was also reflected to the outside through the playful use of loggias and balconies.
